Movement as medium
body as techonolgy

movement and technology
enactment and representation

we shape the tools, and then our tools shape us.
(Marshall McLuhan, 1968)

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. (Martha Graham, 1943)

Eva Feng (b. 2000) is an interdisciplinary artist whose main medium is movement, choreography, digital technologies, and moving images. As a being situated in time and space,  movement is ontological. She explores the movement in order get a deeper understanding of herself, which informs her understanding towards humanity. And she turns her understanding of herself and the humanity into her work again. In the upward spiral of understanding and making work, she feels the ultimate satisfaction and joy.

She graduated cum laude from New York University with a double major in Integrated Digital Media and Psychology, and a minor in Philosophy. She was the recipient of NYU Humanities Fellowship in 2023 under the guidance of professor Ulrich Baer. She was the choreographer and dancer for NYU’s premier dance company, Pulse Dance Project. She has trained with Martha Graham, Gallim, Batsheva, and Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, and when she was young, Chinese Youth Dance Troupe. She draws inspirations from movement techniques from Gaga Movement language, Martha Graham technique, Chinese Traditional Dance and Chinese Folk Dance, as well as Tai Chi, Butoh and Contact Improv.
